Selected Renewable Energy Projects

Mauritania’s renewable-energy portfolio includes operating electricity assets and large development-stage green hydrogen proposals. The projects below have different sponsors, scales, and maturity levels; proposed capacity must not be treated as installed or committed capacity.

Sheikh Zayed Solar Power Plant 

A 15 MW solar photovoltaic plant in Nouakchott, operational since 2013 and developed by Masdar as Mauritania’s first utility-scale solar power installation.

AMAN Green Hydrogen Project 

CWP Global’s proposed AMAN project in northern Mauritania is designed to deploy up to 30 GW of combined wind and solar generation to support large-scale green hydrogen and derivatives production. The project remains under development and is progressing toward the Pre-FEED stage.

Nour Project 

Project Nour is a proposed green hydrogen development in northern Mauritania. Its completed feasibility study outlined an initial phase of 3 GW of renewable generation powering up to 1.6 GW of electrolysis. Development work continues, with current next steps including completion of the investment framework, an engineering conceptual study, and offtake negotiations.
